The German Röntgen Congress is the single largest congress on medical imaging of the German-speaking countries. The congress is a platform for presenting innovative technologies and methods. Every year, the newest developments of the field are introduced. A particular focus of interest are the implications of new research findings for clinical use.
The numerous facets of radiology throughout the years
Last year’s Röntgen Congress laid its focus on oncological imaging and interventional oncology. However, the digital aspects of radiology have increasingly gathered attention. This trend has persisted for another year, with a series of talks and discussions entitled dedicated to digital communications in radiology and cyber security. Although this year’s congress focusses on cardiovascular imaging and neuroradiology, “Big Data”, “Machine Learning” and “Deep Learning” remain equally recurrent buzzwords.
Introducing ImageBiopsy Lab’s osteoarthritis prediction method at the German Röntgen Congress
This is where ImageBiopsy Lab comes in again: We are presenting our research on bone structure-based osteoarthritis progression. The presentation is entitled “Combining fractal- and entropy-based bone texture analysis for the prediction of Osteoarthritis: data from the Multicenter Osteoarthritis study (MOST)”. Through this novel bone texture analysis, we are addressing the issue that, currently, no reliable OA risk assessment is available. Using fractal- and entropy-based features in combination with the joint space width and area, we significantly outperformed the risk prediction achieved through joint space features and clinical features. This opens up new aspects to be included in an OA risk analysis.
Our presentation is scheduled for 3:15pm on the 9th May 2018 during the “Musculoskeletal I – Degeneration” session. There will be time for questions, so do not hesitate to ask!
